After Later Audio – STEPS Module
The After Later STEPS module is a versatile and playful utility for injecting randomness, bursts, and looped gates into your Eurorack system. With three gate types and hands-on controls, it’s particularly loved for generative percussion, triggered modulations, and chaotic clocking. If you’re into live patching or experimental workflows, it’s a great rhythmic tool.
a Eurorack utility inspired by the Mutable Instruments Branches and Turing Machine-style random sequencers, but with unique performance features.
A hybrid trigger sequencer / random gate generator / burst generator, this module is built for creative rhythmic triggering. Great for live modular sets or for injecting unpredictability into your clock/gate chains.
Features & Panel Overview
-
Knobs:
-
Clock: Controls internal rate or response to external clock input
-
Steps: Sets sequence length (number of active steps)
-
-
Toggle Switches:
-
Loop / Burst / Random:
-
Loop
: Standard stepped looping pattern -
Rand
: Generates randomized step order -
Burst
: Fires multiple triggers per step
-
-
8-Step Toggle: Limits sequence to 8 steps or expands to max available
-
-
Jacks (Right side, top to bottom):
Label Function SEQ CLOCK
Clock input for sequence stepping BURST CLOCK
Separate clock input for burst mode TRIG
External trigger input GATE
Gate output for triggered steps R.GATE
Randomized gate output PUL
Pulse output (per trigger) EOB
End-of-burst output (triggered when burst completes) -
Versatile rhythm utility: Looping, random, and burst—all in one
-
Hands-on design: Great for performative use; easy to grab knobs and switches
-
Multiple outs: You can patch gates, pulses, and EOB separately to different modules
-
Unique gate shaping: Adds life to envelope triggers, percussive voices, or even logic chains
-
No CV control: Sequence length and mode changes require manual control
-
Not quantized: Best used for triggering, not melodic CV duties
-
No memory/save: It’s purely real-time—nothing is retained on power down
